When is the best time for an outdoor family photography session?

To get that gorgeous glow, I typically schedule outdoor sessions during golden hour – the hour or 2 right before sunset.

What should we wear for family photos?

Think coordinating, not matching. I recommend wearing neutral palettes with pops of color and or texture. Avoid heavy logos and neon colors that will distract from your faces.

What happens if there is rain?

This is Florida and weather often doesn’t cooperate. We will keep an eye on the radar, and I’ll make the call a few hours before.

What are some of your preferred locations?

Tampa has some amazing backdrops! For that classic Florida nature look, I love the look of Lettuce Lake Park in Temple Terrace or the rugged backdrop of bridges at Hillsborough River State Park.

Tips for a successful session:

Preparation is the key to a stress-free session. I know that getting a family ready for photos can feel like a feat of endurance. Here are my top tips for a smooth experience:

The “Full Tummy” Rule – For kids young and old, make sure everyone has a protein heavy snack right before the session. A hungry toddler will melt down every time, and even “big kids” (and dads!) are much happier with a full stomach. Avoid sugary snacks right before so there are no sugar crashes.

Nap Schedules Rule – If we are shooting later in the day, try to adjust nap times so your little ones will be at their peak energy.

Comfort Rule – Choosing clothing that is comfortable. If you or your kids are in stiff clothing, they will not want to participate. Let them wear something that feels good so they can relax and do well during their session.

As your Tampa family photographer, I believe that your images deserve a life outside of a hard drive.

Imagine your high school senior’s portraits on the mantle, or a gallery wall in your hallway that chronicles your children growing from a gap tooth smiled into young adults.

These aren’t just digital files; they are heirlooms. I provide printed artwork and images that will last 20 years from now. You won’t be searching for a lost password, instead you’ll be turning the pages of a physical album with your grandchildren or gazing at your beautiful family on your walls.
