I loved meeting these first time parents and getting to see the newfound joy between them and their new baby. This family was so sweet with their baby boy during their newborn photos. Mom chose the colors blue, grey, white, and tan because his nursery was decorated in those colors with a whale theme. So, when I read all about his nursery I was so excited for this in home newborn session.
My favorite part of a newborn session, besides the baby photography, is planning the session around the colors that my clients choose. I spend a good amount of time carefully choosing colors and creating color palettes based off mama’s wishes. All of my props, newborn wraps, and more for baby Tate are from the Newborn Client Closet for this session.
As you can see, this baby boy’s nursery is absolutely perfect and looks like it is straight of of pinterest! Their newborn photography collection included baby posing as well as lifestyle newborn posing that was done in their nursery. I love this option of being able to document their first room in their newborn session.
The next few collages are the posed, studio newborn portion of the session. All of the posed newborn work is done in my client’s home! You can read more about our Tampa Newborn Photography sessions here and how I bring everything I need to my clients so they don’t have to leave their homes. Depending on the newborn photo collection you choose, you can typically expect newborn prop images and newborn studio posed images.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! If you are here on this preparation guide, chances are you have booked me for baby photos in the Tampa area!
I am so honored to be documenting this special season in your family’s life. The first few weeks and month of your new baby’s life are going to fly by in a blur. I have put together this prep guide so you will be prepared for your newborn session.
Please have available:
Essentials: Burp cloths, wipes, a pacifier just in case I need them!
Put your baby in easy to remove clothing. Avoid restrictive clothing or anything that will unsettle baby to remove. Please avoid socks and hats.
Eating: If bottle feeding, please have an extra ready. Sometimes babies will cluster-feed when they are new, meaning they will eat more frequent small meals because their tummies cannot hold a lot. If you are nursing, please try and avoid spicy and acidic foods the night before as to not upset baby’s tummy.
The day of your session:
Keep baby stimulated and awake the hour before I come. This will help baby sleep well during their session. We want your baby to be able to go to sleep.
Bathe baby in a warm bath. While you are keeping baby awake, it is recommended that you use part of the time to give baby a warm bath. This will help prep them to start getting ready to sleep. It also makes sure their hair is clean and that eyes and nose are free of sleepies and boogers.
Start to feed baby right before I get there. When your baby has been kept awake, then bathed, and fed it is the winning combination for a sleepy baby. Their little tummies will be full and they will be able to sleep longer.
Lighting. please make sure shades are open for the best natural light possible.
dUring the session
I will bring one white wrap to professional wrap your baby in for the entire session.
Posing- . I will photograph your family with baby in the nursery and or on the master bed. I will make sure to get shots of the whole family as well as each parent with the baby.
When newly pregnant mothers find my website and fill out my form hoping for a gorgeous, maternity beach photoshoot for their pregnancy photos, it thrills my soul! Being pregnant is a beautiful journey and I love that my job is getting to highlight their changing bodies and all the joy that comes with this new baby!
We are blessed in Tampa, Florida to have some amazing beaches, but my favorite part are the sunset backdrops.
During this maternity beach photoshoot, my client picked two different maternity gowns from my client closet to wear during her session. She specifically wanted a white, lace maternity gown for the first half and a bold, black maternity gown against the sunset sky.
If you’re in the Tampa or St. Pete area and you are looking for a maternity session or beach pregnancy photo session, I would love to chat with you!
A beach Maternity photo shoot is one of my most favorite sessions. And, if you’ve looked around my website, they are also the most popular. I think there is something so beautiful about a mama standing on the beach during sunset. The background and lighting just go so lovely with their bump and their glow just accentuates the whole look.
Amanda picked Fort Desoto Beach for her beach maternity photo shoot location and I am so glad she did! After watching the forecast for the week I was nervous about the summer rains and how the weather would be. As soon as we stepped out onto the beach, I knew it was going to be a gorgeous night. The fort ruins in the water are a gorgeous backdrop that paired so well with the calmness of the waves that evening.
Sunsets after rain in Florida can bring some of the most gorgeous colors and as you’ll see from her session photos below. As we shot into the evening, the sunset went from warm to blue hour and gave us some gorgeous cotton candy skies that Florida is known for!

Maybe you’re not sure whether you should have hospital newborn photos taken or book a newborn photography session. Today, I will discuss why you should skip photography in the hospital and book your own photographer. After all, I think this will help you receive the best memories for your family and a better experience instead. Having a newborn baby is an exciting time for your family. You’ve been waiting months and preparing your nursery and dreaming of what they will look like. Chances are, you have probably already thought about documenting this time for your family. Read on to see the 3 reasons why you should skip that hospital photographer and book your own!
Reason 1: Lack of comfort
As a mama myself, I remember those first couple days after having a baby. Everything is a total blur and you just want to go home. People are visiting, doctors are coming in to check on things, and everything is overwhelming. First, for these special memories you probably want a little bit of comfort. Booking your own photographer means you can go home, take a shower, put on some makeup on. It also means, that you will be able to choose outfits other than the outfit you packed for the hospital. There’s little time to prep to where you feel YOUR best! Ultimately, skipping the hospital newborn photos means you can go home and plan your dream newborn session where you will feel more comfortable.
Reason 2: No Customization
Here we are going to compare and contrast hospital newborn photos vs a newborn photographer that does this professionally. When you book a newborn photographer, you know that you are going to get a customized experience with your wants in mind. During booking, a newborn photographer will ask you questions to get to know you better and work on a shot list that you desire. In contrast, a hospital photographer will not let you customize your session. Their job is to take your pictures, process them, and deliver them. No customization included.
In addition, professional newborn photographers offer props and newborn wraps which elevates the look of your photos drastically. You will also be able to decide where you would feel comfortable having your photos done. The most popular options of location are between a newborn studio look or a lifestyle newborn session done in your own home. However, hospital newborn photos will not include access to different props or wraps nor will it included options of locations. Above all, your whole newborn photography experience should be tailored to what you want because these are your memories.
Reason 3 – No additional family
Also, right now as we are still in the middle of COVID-19 hospitals have become very strict on their visitor policies. Hospitals have a one visitor policy which leaves little extra room when you have family, but having a newborn added to your family is special to more than just mom and dad. Sometimes there are other siblings and eager grandparents that want to be apart of the photos too. These newborn photos will become part of your legacy of memories. You will hang them on your walls, fill your albums, and share these moments with each year that goes by. Make sure you have all the people you love in your photos!
Finally, this newborn stage is fleeting, so however you decide to document your newborn photos, I hope they will will be special in their own way. Please strongly consider these 3 reasons on why you should skip newborn photography in the hospital and go with a professional photographer to document your newborn images in a way that you’ll cherish for a lifetime!
